Chernobyl Project

In the middle of July, Cambria pupils are hosting a group of 16 pupils from Chernobyl in Belarus. They are hoping to come for a break from their intense cancer treatment.
In Belarus, a small country between Russia and Poland, over a million children are at risk form developing cancer because of a nuclear accident that happened thirty years ago.
Doctors in Belarus say that the holiday abroad will boost the children's immune system for at least 2 years, helping them to resist, or recover from a serious illness, increasing their life span by 2 years. It can also reduce the amount of radioactive caesium which has built in the child's body.
Many of the children we bring to this country are in remission from leukemia or cancer. They are chosen by an organisation in Minsk called "Children in Trouble," which is run by the parents of the children who have cancer.
We are hoping to raise approximately £2000 for which Barclays Bank will match us pound to pound. This money will then be used to take the children out on various trips around Carmarthen. The children will be staying for four weeks in Carmarthen.
