The world is your oyster with Rotary

· How do you fancy Tennis in Turkey, sailing in France, golfing in Italy, or swimming in the Black Sea?

· Are you aged between 15 and 25? Do you want to see the world and meet new people, but lack the financial resources to do so? If this is you, then Rotary International can help.

For many years, Rotary International in Great Britain and Ireland have arranged placements for young people on camps and tours around the world. The main aim of this is to bring together people from other countries to practice language skills, experience new cultures and to ultimately broaden horizons. The average size of a camp or tour is between 10 and 15 people, with normally two people being invited from each country, for a period of one or two weeks.

Most camps are tailored to specific interests, so there is something to suit everyone, or if you'd rather 'do your own thing' that's fine too! Camps that have been put forward this year include; golfing in Italy, summer fun and sporting activities in Slovakia, 2001 bike tour in Switzerland, the black sea summer camp in Turkey, discover Belgium 2001, canoeing through Czech history in the Czech Republic, international sailing camp in France, and many more.

So how much does it cost? All successful applicants will need to pay their own travel and insurance costs and bring their own spending money. Accommodation, activities and food are all supplied by the host Rotary Club.

David Liddiatt, Rotary President 2001-2002 comments, "Rotary Clubs in Great Britain and Ireland want to give the young people in their districts the opportunity to discover the world and it's cultures. Our Youth Camps and Tours scheme helps to subsidise the costs of going abroad, making it more affordable for young people. The placements not only provide holidays for these people, but they provide a range of activities that open their eyes to the history and traditions of another country. In past years this scheme has been very successful enabling many young people to have the experience of a lifetime".
